Mining: Ammonium Nitrate Solution (ANSOL) implementation at PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC)
At PT KPC in Indonesia, the Group ANSOL replaced traditional Ammonium Nitrate (AN) Prill in emulsion manufacturing. This transition has delivered multiple benefits for customer safety, efficiency and sustainability outcomes. By eliminating the energy intensive dissolution stage, ANSOL has reduced fuel use during processing by up to 25% and cut water consumption at the site by up to 69%. The move also removes the need for chemical coating agents and eliminates waste from bulk AN bags, directly supporting waste and circularity objectives. Operationally, ANSOL improves emulsion stability and product quality, is not prone to caking during temperature changes and reduces emulsion manufacturing time by up to 25%, freeing up capacity and improving plant reliability.
Mining: Surface emulsion innovations for responsible coal mining
In the coal sector, where reactive ground and hot-hole conditions create significant safety and operational challenges, AECI Mining uses advanced emulsion technology such as its Powergel X² range to enable safer, more efficient blasting while reducing waste and simplifying logistics. Taking the Powergel range further, AECI Mining has introduced an eco-variant with excellent water resistance that incorporates recycled oil into the emulsion. Over the past decade, since integrating used oils into its various Eco bulk emulsion formulations, the business has consumed more than 80 million litres of used oil and prevented approximately 55k tCO₂e of emissions from entering the atmosphere. As Africa’s first explosive manufacturer, AECI Mining has long prioritised explosives R&D and this continuous innovation is now delivering tangible sustainability outcomes for customers operating in increasingly challenging mining conditions.
