We implemented the Intellishot® electronic initiation system to resolve longstanding issues with fragmentation, perimeter control and safety. The previous shock tube method created timing mismatches and out-of-sequence blasts, which limited wall control and reduced fragmentation quality. The operation increased blast sizes from 40 000 to 110 000 bank cubic metres (bcm) and reduced blasting frequency from 10 to six blasts per month.
The ore powder factor improved from 1.8kg to 1.61kg per bcm, reducing the amount of explosive required while maintaining the same fragmentation performance.
